2018 Gallery
The first season of our tenth year at Wirraglen (Highfields) continued to have increasing numbers of families visit each Thursday. There were also more families asking for help at their homes to either get started with Home Education or to formulate their reports. This is reflective of the recent report showing rising numbers of home education families all around Australia. We have been missing our great volunteer Julie as she is doing University study, but hopefully she will be back with us soon. Lots of fun each week and, as one mum put it, it's a great place for parents to relax and chin wag for a few hours. Looking forward to a fabulous tenth anniversary year for Wirraglen Support Group.
February - March
A group of teens (and 1 mum) thoroughly enjoyed a 5 week cooking course provided by Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food. The classes were held in an amazingly decked out truck (mobile kitchen) - each student having their own work station, cooktops and oven. This is such a wonderful initiative that teaches cooking from 'scratch' with fresh ingredients. The meals were so yummy.....so much flavour!!
April - June
The weather has been so kind to us - who would realise we are even in winter now? We are so thankful for the donation from the Progress Community of Crows Nest Ltd which has enabled local artist Elizabeth Lawson-Zell to work with children and parents at the Centre over the last few weeks. Check out the photos with children wrapping paper around a tree and then drawing on it. Parents joined in too, experimenting with different objects at the art table. We are so blessed to be able to use this beautiful bush setting with trees perfect for climbing in.
July - September
Some of the kids took the opportunity to have some fun and dress up as favourite book characters. There was also fun to be had exploring a BIG truck brought to the centre by volunteer Julie's husband Simon. It had an automatic gear change which Simon said was "so smooth". The kids (and adults) loved it!!
October - December
We are at the end of our 11th year operating as a support group for home educators. There can be up to 16 families at the Centre on the same day. A huge shout out to Ken & Suesie for their dedication, passion, enthusiasm and vision.....
