About Us

Why a support group?
The decision to home educate can be a scary one!  Even after a year or two (or more) we can wonder if we have made the right decision, if we are 'using the best method', if our children are 'missing out'?  As parents we often question ourselves, and not just in are area of education.  Chatting to other families, making friends, sharing the tough days with the awesome ones, bouncing ideas amongst each other, getting out of the house......many of the families in our community find Wirraglen invaluable.

What are we?
We are an incorporated, not for profit organisation, operating since 2008.  We are also a registered charity.

Who are we?
We are parents, grandparents, extended family, volunteers & retired teachers who help and support each other in home educating our children.

What do the children do there?
Meet up with friends. Play. Talk. Create. Listen to and join in with adult discussions. Climb. Build. Read. Run. Chase. Make plans. Sing. Throw. Catch. Dream. Rest. Race. Get messy. Laugh. Eat.  Come up with and act upon brilliant ideas. Put on plays for the adults and other children. Write. Shout. Yell. Get grumpy. Get over it. Laugh some more. Grow. Copy. Help. Stand and stare. Think. Watch.  Fall over. Get up. Explore. Get tired.

Are there any set fees that must be paid?
Wirraglen Support Group is run solely on contributions from families and extended community.  We encourage regular families to become a "Friend of Wirraglen" (link at bottom of the page) to assist with support and insurance costs.  We are not eligible to receive any government funding.  We have some volunteers who work hard to provide support with educational plans and reports where needed.  However - anyone can access us, regardless of their financial situation.
