If your new to Home Educate, one of the first steps you can take when starting on this journey with your kids is to get them Provisionally Registered.
But what does it mean?
This is basically a measure to get your kids registered into the home educational system legally but only temporarily (60 days), before actually getting them fully registered.
Here are some of the benefits of this measure:
1- Allows time for reflection
Maybe home education is for you, maybe it is not. With this measure you will have roughly 2 months to think about all the benefits and all the challenges your family might face during this journey.
2- Allows time to get help
During this time, a good idea would be to do some research about home schooling and to get help from a support group. It's also great to talk to other families about their experiences and share knowledge before you make your final decisions. Another highly recommended thing would be to get your kids to meet other home educated kids so they can also share their own experiences and help them create their own perspective about being home educated.
3- Give the kids time for adapting
It takes time for everyone to get used to the new routine, especially when kids are used to going to school everyday for pretty much their whole life. Take this 2 months to get them adapted into the new routine and make adjustments if necessary. Hearing them out and getting their feedback is crucial for having success and delivering a high quality education.
4- Give the parents a chance for adapting
Parents also need to adapt to not only the new routine but also to being responsible for providing the education for the kids. That means taking time to hear and understand what the kids need and making the right choices to provide the education. This can be provided either by yourself, the parent/guardian or by a registered teacher. You can also get assistance from whomever and wherever you choose.
But what if I already know that this is the right choice for my family and I want to get them fully registered?
No worries, you absolutely can do that! Although we do recommended it, Provisional Registration is not mandatory, that means, you have the option to choose the best path for you and your family.
